Zuhair Murad Ready-to-Wear Pre-Fall 2017

Geometric Opulence

Two forces clash and meld at the core of Zuhair Murad’s Pre-Fall 2017 collection: architectural precision and an instinct for the organic, which appraise each other and cross paths, before coming together in a perfect Ying-Yang fit.

Generously-cut suits come with plunging necklines, pinched at the waist with a loosely-tied bow, or sequinned throughout. A short bomber jacket is emblazoned with precious Chinese embroidery, while the same embroidery is laid across a silk peignoir, transforming a boudoir icon into striking eveningwear.

This same melding of simple and ornamental also emerges in the contrast between a floor-length gown with a demure Victorian neckline re-imagined in lace, to hint at the beauty of the forms beneath.

Echoing the Haute Couture collection, the eighties are also present, inspiring lamé frocks with outsize shoulders, and bustier cocktail dresses with giant flounces and plumetis sleeves.

There you have the complexity underpinning the collection, in the image of the women who will wear it – contemporary, opulent, and subversive.
